Too Much of a Good Thing...

What do you do when you are at the table finishing up a great meal that your neighbor has brought you when the doorbell rings. You answer it to find 2 other neighbors smiling with another hot dinner in tow. This happened to us earlier this week. Apparently there were several sign up lists passed around in church. I called Sister RS Pres. about it and she assured me that it was all organized and everything was fine. But then it happened again. It makes us a little nervous about what today will bring. Do we hide dinner #1 and wait (like we did the 2nd time) do we explain? We just don't want anyone to feel bad. Don't get me wrong we are enjoying all this food and freezing the extra...

Sleepless in Spring

Last night after Cannon's bath (oooh I love baby baths) I invited all the girls to come over and admire his fluffy hair and smell his head. Adrie (3) leaned in and sniffed and then said, as if auditioning for a commercial, "Mmmmmm, smells like Spring!"
Sleep Deprivation Experiment --Week #2
I made a deal with baby (in the midnight hours) that I would feed him only if he promised to go right back to sleep. He didn't keep his end of the deal. First it was poo, then hiccups, then poo, then he found his hand and gnawing on it made him remember how hungry he still was. The cycle continued until morning when the girls woke up like gangbusters ready for a new day.

Cannon let us sleep for a nice 4-hr. chunk last night! How refreshed we feel.

Cannon Duhn

Our healthy boy arrived March 17 at 7:27 a.m. 8 lbs. 19 3/4 in. He doesn't look anything like our girls--totally boy. He surprised us with all that fluffy hair. I wish Mom were here to confirm but I think he looks just like his Dad would have as a baby. We love him and we're so glad to have him here.
The c-section part wasn't that great. I had a bad reaction to the epidural and lost a lot more blood than normal so I had to receive a blood transfusion. So, here's to a little longer recovery but a sweet baby to go with it.

Peanut Butter and Pregnancy

All last evening I was craving a peanut butter oreo shake. Once the girls were in bed and the first of 12 loads of laundry I need to do before sunday was in the washer, I set out for our local greasy spoon. I arrived at 9pm thinking...it's a Friday night and Prom night to boot--they've got to be open right? WRONG! Closed at 9 and they didn't even care that I was so disappointed and so pregnant. So, I drove to the only other possible option the local bakery/ice cream treat store--LOCKED UP! I could have cried.
This is one reason living rural isn't so great at times. What are these places thinking closing up so early on the weekends? Where is a pregnant mama to go? And what are all those Jr. Prom kids supposed to do after the dance?!!!
Words from the lawyer on Seinfield would have described my feelings: unthinkable, despicable, unconscionable!

Family Night Foibles

You'd think our kids would know a little something about the gospel but those family night lessons can always surprise you. Adrie gave our lesson (with dad's help) about the life of Jesus.
After they read a few lines together. Dad asked everyone a question. Kate's was a fill-in-the blank: "Jesus suffered for our_____. He had to repeat "OUR....OUR..." several times before Kate responded, "Jesus suffered for HOURS?!
Then Brynn's question, "What did Jesus use for the sacrament?"
"Fish and coffee" was her answer.

1 week to go!

We're on the countdown until baby boy comes. When is that nesting instinct going to kick in? It's time to organize drawers, sort through all the old baby clothes to find something that isn't pink.
