General Conference Traditions

Growing up, Conference was a special time when we got to stay home from church and engorge in our favorite munchies and goodies--all displayed on the coffee table. Rule was: In order to eat the treats you had to stay in your seat and LISTEN to the good word blasting from every TV/radio in the house! I always chose Reese's PB cups. Now I can't help but keep that tradition and our girls make sure I do. This year, BD picked me up some PB cups without any prompts. For him it's peanut M&M's. I always think this will be the year that I will splurge and get one of those prepared meat/cheese platters and fruit trays for some real snackin' but I haven't yet. Another treat we have to make is Sticky Buns on Sunday Morning so we will be sure to be sugared out by the end of the day. Did I mention I was a sugar addict? Anyway, I want to know what Gen. Conf. traditions other people have...do share! Recipe for those delish buns: http://www.recipezaar.com/15625

Treats are so dang important. I always think of the peanut M&Ms as well, but have yet to actually buy them for my family. I also wanted to do some great dips this year, but just like your fancy meat tray didn't quite do it. Instead we have Swedish Fish and Strawberries. Which is randon, but I must have been in a red mood?? I like the idea of a breakfast but that seems like lots of work when my kids just want to eat their oatmeal by 7:30.

I remember that, and I think it is such a great idea--makes kids associate General Conference with a special treat. I think I'd do that this year, but with two birthday parties here yesterday, we are already on sugar overload! We are doing conference bingo and coloring stuff then heading to grandma's for sub sandwiches.

I loved your comment on my blog--dressing up as punks was such a blast, but yes, out at night roaming the neighborhood--crazy! But we did have so much fun.

I especially loved how embarrassed you were to carry your stuff to my house, because you thought people were going to think you were a hobo. :) That was so funny. I have some pictures of us I am totally going to post.

I tried that recipe for the first time last week Laura. It was good. I thought we needed to try something else for breakfast but french toast takes too long- I like the overnight fridge thing.

As for GC treats, we have some starbursts and some leftover Easter candy I stocked up on. Are strawberries on sale now? i need to make some freezer jam.

We have a tradition of thinking we should come up with a tradition every year -- and then not quite doing it. Saturday we usually work with conference blaring everywhere. Sunday we all gather in the family room and the littler ones play Conference Bingo or something. That's it. Today we'll also celebrate Tia's birthday so that will be fun.

we usually take a nice drive on Saturday up the mountains as far as we get decent reception while we listen to morning conference, get out and horse around in-between sessions and have a nice picnic lunch - we use the afternoon session for the drive home. The kids probably sleep through a goodly portion of it, but at least we get to listen. Sunday consists of treats and Conference Bingo...
I say "usually" because this year was completely different. The girls weren't feeling good Saturday and we have company... all bets were off.
